Privacy.

Privacy is respected by staff. Clients are permitted to receive mail and conduct private
telephone calls. Their records are kept confidential and they have access to their
private records. Clients are expected to obtain permission from a member of staff
before leaving the premises. Alcohol and drug screening can be requested and tests
for these are periodically and randomly requested during treatment.

Health Care

Clients are encouraged to register with a local G.P. and dentist, as necessary.
Meals and menus are prepared by staff (chef) with residents help. Vegetarians, special
diets and food disorders are catered for. The Physical aspects of drug and alcohol
disorders are catered for, as is good health awareness within the lectures and groups.

Mobile Phones

Mobile phones are not allowed on the premises as they can interfere with a client’s
treatment.

Services for Women

Access is available to a female G.P. and female staff are available for one to one
counseling. Work includes women’s issues support and guidance. Ark House is
nondiscriminatory and specific guidelines are applicable for the both men and women.
Visits with family are encouraged where appropriate and as arranged

Services for HIV Positive Service Users

All staff and residents are treated equally and no special conditions are imposed on
clients who are HIV positive. Access to appropriate services can be arranged.

Discharge and After Care

Regular reviews and discussions are held with the client and relevant professionals to
ensure that individual needs are met. Support and advice is available on an ongoing
basis. Extended care programs are offered along with the aftercare groups.
